2007 Composition Competition Winners
The Classical Marimba League congratulates the winners of the 2007 International Composition Competition! Four 1st Prize winners were selected from applicants hailing from 7 different countries. Five compositions were awarded Honorable Mentions.

Honorable Mention works to be performed:
Phillip Hayner from Tallahassee, FL in the Baroque category; Todd Gabriel from Shreveport, LA in the Classical category; Kyung Taek Kim from Seoul, South Korea in the Romantic category; Anthony Green from Jamaica Plain, MA in the Impressionism category; and Scott Wasserman from Pittsburgh, PA in the Tonal Contemporary category.
The CML is proud to present the 2007 award winners. The 1st Prize winners will have their works commercially published by C. Alan Publications. All winning works will also receive premier performances by the participating schools of music during the 2007-2008 concert season.
Information on the 2007 1st Prize Winners:
Joe Hills, winner of the Baroque category, wrote Dueling Marimbas for Marimba Duo. This work will be performed at the Royal College of Music.
George Kontogiorgos, winner of the Classical category, wrote Miniatures for Marimba & String Quartet. The work is based on seven Hellenic folk songs. The movements are titled: Menoussis, Halassia mou, The cradle, Eastern thunder, The moon cycles, To the fields far away, and Giaroubis. This work will be performed at the Ithaca College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Pius Cheung, winner of the Romantic category, wrote Three Preludes for Solo Marimba (C major, c minor & Db major). This work will be performed at Colorado State University and Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Nils Rohwer & Jens Schliecker, winners of the Impressionism category, wrote Morning-Clouds for Marimba and Piano. This work will be performed at Samford University.
Information on the Honorable Mention Winners:
Phillip Hayner, awarded an Honorable Mention in the Baroque category, wrote The Gorge for Marimba Duo. This work will be performed at Ohio University.
Todd Gabriel, awarded an Honorable Mention in the Classical category, wrote The Noble Hound for Marimba and String Quartet. This work will be performed at the Lamont School of Music and Colorado State University.
Kyung Taek Kim, awarded an Honorable Mention in the Romantic category, wrote 'Soaring', Preludium No. 1 for Marimba. This work will be performed at Ohio University.
Anthony Green, awarded an Honorable Mention in the Impressionism category, wrote Idee pour marimba et piano. This work will be performed at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Scott Wasserman, awarded an Honorable Mention in the Tonal Contemporary category, wrote Bopheloke molaetsa. Thee letsa. for Marimba and SATB Choir. The title is from a Northern Sotho Proverb, Africa and translates to Life is a mesage. Listen to it. This work will be performed at the University of Missouri-Columbia
